According to surveillance footage, the shooting victim armed himself with a hammer and followed Harris around the store. The victim then motioned his wife and daughter towards the exit, raising the mallet on the aisle he was on and going towards the aisle where Harris was located. The clerk, who was in the back of the store, heard a pop and went to investigate. She found the victim lying in an aisle with a gunshot wound to his lower back. Unfortunately, the actual shooting was not captured on camera.

Harris was seen leaving the store through the front exit and heading towards River Falls Golf Course. Deputies arrived at the scene and the victim provided Harris’ name. A witness, a juvenile, stated that she saw a red vehicle leaving the area immediately after the incident, but no further details could be provided. It’s important to note that the juvenile did not witness the shooting itself.

Crime investigators from the Solicitor’s Office reviewed the case file and surveillance footage and concluded that Harris was acting in self-defense. However, due to Harris’ previous history, he is being charged with two weapon offenses. The exact cause of the conflict between Harris and the shooting victim is unknown, although an individual informed authorities that Harris had fired a shot at the victim while he was standing on his front porch a week prior to the incident at the Dollar General.

It remains unclear whether Harris continued on foot or got into a vehicle after leaving the store, as he went off the frame of the surveillance camera. Sadly, the shooting victim, identified as Danny Ray Crisp, a 50-year-old resident of Spartanburg, passed away on December 29.

Harris was apprehended by a SWAT team from the Chillicothe Police Department in Ohio on Thursday, following a brief standoff. He was arrested without incident and is currently being held at the Ross County Detention Facility in Chillicothe. However, it is unknown when he will be extradited back to South Carolina.
