PINE BELT, Miss. Department of Public Safety Collects Donations for Slain George County Deputy’s Family

PINE BELT, Miss. (WDAM) – The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is appealing for donations to provide support to the family of Deputy Jeremy Malone, who tragically lost his life in the line of duty. Deputy Malone was fatally shot while conducting a routine traffic stop on U.S. Highway 98 in Lucedale.

To assist Deputy Malone’s grieving family with funeral expenses, MDPS Commissioner Sean Tindell has organized a GoFundMe campaign. This initiative aims to raise funds to honor the memory of the 44-year-old deputy.

Following the tragic incident, multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Mississippi Highway Patrol and George County Sheriff’s Department, swiftly responded to the scene. The suspect responsible for the shooting fled, prompting a pursuit that ultimately led to Beaumont, where law enforcement engaged the suspect. During the confrontation, multiple rounds were exchanged, resulting in fatal injuries for the 43-year-old assailant. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name at this time.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently conducting an in-depth inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Deputy Malone’s untimely death.

Deputy Jeremy Malone dedicated 21 years of his life to serving and protecting the George County community as a member of the Sheriff’s Office. His tragic passing has left behind a devastated wife and three daughters.
