QUAD CITIES {KWQC} – Following the recent tragic incident at Perry High School, local law enforcement authorities in the Quad Cities area have emphasized that adequate safety procedures are already in place.

Scott County Sheriff Tim Lane expressed his concern, stating that this unfortunate event serves as a reminder that school shootings can occur anywhere, be it in inner city, suburban, or rural areas.

Sheriff Lane further explained that the authorities have established a comprehensive process to handle any potential threats. Individuals who receive information regarding a threat or become aware of such threats are encouraged to report them immediately. The law enforcement agencies promptly investigate these reports and reach out to the individuals responsible for making the threats. The aim is to evaluate the credibility of the threats and intervene before any harm is done.

Reflecting on a previous incident involving a gun in the North Scott School District, current superintendent Joe Stutting emphasized the importance of proactive planning in potentially life-threatening situations.

Superintendent Stutting recalled an incident that occurred five years ago within their district, where a gun was involved. This serves as a stark reminder that such incidents can happen anywhere. He highlighted the significance of creating an environment within schools that fosters strong relationships between students and trusted adults. By doing so, signs of distress can be recognized, and prompt assistance can be provided when needed.

Details of Perry High School Shooting

On January 4th, at approximately 7:37 a.m., a tragic incident unfolded at Perry High School. Six individuals were shot, resulting in the unfortunate death of a sixth-grade student. Four other students sustained injuries but are reported to be in stable condition. Additionally, one administrator suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The perpetrator responsible for the shooting has been identified as 17-year-old Dylan Butler, according to law enforcement officials. Butler, who was armed with a shotgun and a handgun, was found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

In a distressing development, an explosive device was also discovered within the school premises. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives swiftly rendered the explosive safe, averting any potential harm.
