A tragic incident occurred in downtown Los Angeles during a New Year’s Eve party held at a warehouse, leaving a family devastated and mourning the loss of a 26-year-old woman. Miah Ladelle Banks was one of two individuals who were fatally shot during the event, leaving behind her 8-year-old daughter.

The news of Banks’ untimely death has shattered her family, particularly her parents, who are struggling to cope with the immense grief. “Her mother is, like she described herself to me last night, as just being empty. She said she had no feeling. It’s not normal, it’s not natural for a mother to bury her child,” shared Banks’ aunt, La Cherryl Veal, in an interview with Eyewitness News.

Banks is remembered by her loved ones as a hardworking and kind-hearted individual who always stayed away from trouble. She was a pillar of support for her entire family and went above and beyond to help others. “Blue, black, orange, yellow. I don’t care what color you were. She loved everybody. She takes care of the world,” expressed Veal. “If you were friends with her and say you were in need of something, she would help you out.”

Damien Salter, Veal’s son and co-owner of the salon where Banks worked for eight years as a hair stylist, shared the profound impact of her loss on the business and their entire family. Banks’ absence has left a void that can never be filled. “It’s going to be very hard to come back here, to see her not here,” said Salter. “She pretty much ran everything over here. She was everything to us all.”

The unfortunate shooting incident occurred amidst a fight that broke out between multiple individuals at the New Year’s Eve party. In total, ten people were shot, and Banks and another victim, 24-year-old Deven Whitaker of Los Angeles, lost their lives. The senseless loss of innocent lives has once again raised concerns about gun control and the need for action to prevent such tragedies in the future.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and the Los Angeles Police Department is urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and assist in the investigation.

To support Banks’ family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe page has been set up to provide financial aid.
