Man Arrested for Fatal Shooting During Dice Game in Memphis

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police have apprehended a suspect in connection with the shooting and killing of a woman during a dice game outside a gas station in Raleigh last December. Marvin Watkins, an 18-year-old, has been charged with Reckless Homicide and Theft of Property valued between $2,500 and $10,000.

The incident took place on December 9 at a store located in the 3900 block of Frayser-Raleigh Road. Tatyana Fitzpatrick, the victim, was fatally shot during the altercation.

According to video footage, Fitzpatrick was sitting on a wall, engrossed in her phone while six men were engaged in a dice game behind her. Suddenly, three men began shooting towards Frayser-Raleigh Road. As the shooting ended, one of the men, wearing a hoodie with a large star on the back, fired another shot, which struck Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick immediately fell off the wall and onto the ground. The Memphis Police Department received a tip from CrimeStoppers, identifying Marvin Watkins as the shooter. The tipster provided the police with Watkins’ Facebook account, as he resembled the individual in the hoodie.

Acting on the information, officers spotted a white Nissan Altima with a fraudulent temporary tag, driven by Watkins, and promptly arrested him. Watkins denied firing a weapon but admitted that he was the person in the incriminating photos.

As of now, no bond has been set for Watkins, and his hearing is scheduled for January 8.
