Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Random Stabbing Death of 15-Year-Old in Pennsylvania

A man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with the “random” stabbing death of 15-year-old Micheal Garr in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania last year. The suspect, Marson Weh, 24, is currently serving time in Ohio for an unrelated crime, but will be extradited to Pennsylvania to face the new charges.

Identification of the Suspect

According to NBC10, Garr was tragically killed on April 21, 2023. Eleven days later, Weh was identified as a suspect after being spotted leaving a house in Clifton Heights wearing the same clothing as the man seen on security footage on the night of the murder.

Weh was taken into custody but refused to cooperate with the investigation. Subsequently, he was extradited to Ohio, where he pleaded guilty to charges of assault and vehicle theft in another case. Consequently, Weh received a nine-and-a-half-year prison sentence.

Link to Previous Criminal Activities

During the course of the investigation, Pennsylvania police discovered evidence at the aforementioned home that linked Weh to the stabbing and carjacking of a pregnant woman and her child just two months before Garr’s murder. However, it was only in December when DNA evidence conclusively tied Weh to the murder, leading to formal charges.

The Tragic Incident

Garr’s life was cut short on April 21, 2023, on the 200 block of Bridge Street at approximately 9:45 pm. He was walking home from a friend’s house when the attack occurred. It has been almost a year since the incident, yet no motive for his death has been uncovered.

As reported by ABC6, District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer expressed his sorrow over the senseless killing, stating that Garr was “a juvenile who was doing nothing more than any juvenile should be able to do anywhere in America: just walking down the street in his own neighborhood.” Stollsteimer labeled it as “one of the most heinous crimes” he has encountered during his tenure as district attorney.

The district attorney stressed the significance of gathering substantial evidence, highlighting that authorities “only get one chance to charge somebody with first-degree murder.”

A Scholarship in Memory of Micheal Garr

CBS News reported that in the months following Micheal Garr’s tragic death, his family announced plans to establish a nonprofit organization called “Dream Beyond the Bench.” This organization aims to fund a scholarship in Garr’s name for students aspiring to study sports-related subjects. The scholarship is expected to be launched in 2025.
