The suspect, Chelsy Leigh Jackson, 33, was taken into custody at the Hot Springs Village Inn, located at 4429 Arkansas 7 north, shortly before 1:30 p.m. She now faces a second-degree domestic battery charge, which carries a potential prison sentence of up to 10 years due to the age of the victim and the severity of his injuries.

Jackson was initially held without bail and made a virtual appearance on Wednesday before Judge Joe Graham in Garland County District Court. Pleading not guilty to the charge, she is scheduled for a felony review hearing on February 16.

Following an agreement with the victim and considering his request, Judge Graham set Jackson’s bail at $2,500. However, as a condition of her release, she must seek mental health treatment. Additionally, a court order has been issued, preventing any contact between Jackson and the victim.

While Jackson does not have any prior felony history in the local area, she had previously pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor offense of driving while intoxicated, which was her first offense. The incident occurred in Garland County on December 10, 2012, resulting in a one-year suspended jail sentence.

According to the probable cause affidavit related to Tuesday’s arrest, Deputy Candice Presley of the Garland County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the hotel. Upon arrival, she interviewed the victim, who stated that Jackson, his on-and-off girlfriend of six years, suffers from mental illness. He had been trying to support her but mentioned that she became angry and confronted him in the lobby.

The hotel manager, who witnessed the incident, informed Deputy Presley that Jackson entered the lobby and immediately began yelling at the victim before physically assaulting him. Concerned for his safety, the manager promptly dialed emergency services. It was observed that Jackson continued yelling at the victim even as he attempted to calm her down.

Despite the victim’s repeated pleas for Jackson to stop, she allegedly struck him multiple times in the face and on the back of his head. As a result, his glasses fell off and shattered upon hitting the floor.

Deputy Presley noted that the victim had a scratch on the right side of his face and blood on the back of his head, which he confirmed were caused by Jackson. Additionally, two lacerations were discovered at the back of his head.

Following the incident, Jackson was taken into custody and subsequently transported to the Garland County jail.
