Hayward Man Arrested for Road-Rage Shooting in Santa Cruz County

Authorities announced on Thursday the arrest of a Hayward man in connection with a road-rage shooting incident that took place last year in Santa Cruz County. The incident, which resulted in injuries to two individuals, including a 3-year-old child, had remained unsolved until now.

The suspect, identified as Raphael Shakur Abduh-Salam, also known as “Abdul-Salam”, was apprehended by the California Highway Patrol and Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office. The shooting occurred in May 2023 on Highway 1, just north of Freedom Boulevard in Aptos.

The other vehicle involved in the incident was carrying a family of five. As a result of the gunfire and shrapnel, a man and a 3-year-old child sustained injuries. Fortunately, both victims were treated at a local hospital and subsequently released.

Investigation and Arrest
