Gangster Sharad Mohol Shot Dead in Pune: Police Launch Manhunt for Assailants

A notorious gangster, Sharad Mohol, who was involved in multiple criminal cases, was allegedly shot and injured by a group of unidentified attackers in Pune on Friday afternoon, according to a police officer. The incident took place in the Sutardara area of Kothrud, where three to four assailants opened fire at Mohol from close range at around 1.30 pm. The 40-year-old gangster sustained bullet wounds and was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Kothrud for medical treatment.

The police have formed special teams to apprehend the attackers, who are believed to be members of Mohol’s gang. The motive behind the attack is suspected to be internal conflicts within the gang, specifically related to land and financial disputes. This incident does not indicate a full-blown gang war, as clarified by the authorities.

Sharad Mohol has a notorious criminal history and is known for his involvement in various serious offenses, including murder and dacoity. Notably, he was previously acquitted in the murder case of suspected Indian Mujahideen operative Mohammad Qateel Siddiqui, which occurred inside the Yerawada jail.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sambhaji Kadam stated, “The firing incident occurred at approximately 1.30 pm, resulting in gunshot wounds sustained by Sharad Mohol. Local police and crime branch teams have initiated a thorough manhunt to track down the assailants responsible for the attack.”

The police are currently examining CCTV footage from the crime scene and its surrounding areas to gather crucial evidence. Additionally, the Forensic Science Laboratory team has been summoned to conduct a detailed investigation into the case. Despite his injuries, Mohol’s condition is reported to be stable, and he is receiving necessary medical treatment at the hospital.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by law enforcement agencies in tackling organized crime and maintaining public safety. The police continue to remain vigilant and are committed to bringing the culprits to justice.
