Forkland, who was inside her home at the time, recalls hearing the commotion and being too scared to venture outside. She called 911 after realizing that her wall had been hit. Fortunately, her home only sustained minor damage, resulting in knocked-off photos and items from a bookshelf, as well as a broken basement window.

“I didn’t know what was wrong with him. I didn’t even know he was shot,” Forkland said, referring to the driver who crashed into her home.

Maple Heights Police Chief Todd Hansen revealed that the incident originated on Libby Road and culminated in the area of Arch and North Avenue. He described the altercation as a road rage situation that escalated to the point where one driver fired a gun at the other.

The driver who crashed into Forkland’s home was identified as 32-year-old Christopher Jones. He collapsed after exiting the vehicle and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Investigators are currently trying to determine the motive behind the road rage incident. Witnesses have informed the police that Jones made a peculiar turn out of a parking lot, potentially provoking the other driver.

Chief Hansen stated that the road rage incident spanned approximately a quarter to a half-mile. The police have been actively seeking information, interviewing witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings, and utilizing Flock cameras and license plate reader cameras to aid in their investigation.

Despite the tragic event, Chief Hansen assured residents that there is no ongoing threat to their safety. He believes this incident to be an isolated case of road rage, emphasizing that these altercations typically arise from two individuals becoming angry with each other rather than being targeted attacks.

While detectives continue to follow promising leads, they intend to release photos of the suspect vehicle. They believe it to be a dark-colored crossover. Chief Hansen also offered advice to anyone confronted with a road rage incident, urging them not to engage with the other driver and instead focus on de-escalating the situation.

In conclusion, the Maple Heights community is reeling from the fatal road rage incident that occurred on Wednesday. The police are working diligently to identify and apprehend the responsible party, and residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any relevant information to the authorities..
