Chicago Man Charged with Shooting death of 22-Year-Old Woman in Roseland

CHICAGO (CBS) – A 19-year-old man from Chicago has been arrested and charged with the shooting death of a 22-year-old woman in the Roseland neighborhood last summer.
The suspect, Jamari Champion, was apprehended by Chicago police officers and members of the Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force on Wednesday. The arrest took place in the South Shore neighborhood, specifically in the 7500 block of South Stony Island.
Champion is facing one felony count of first-degree murder.
According to police reports, Champion has been identified as the person responsible for the fatal shooting that occurred on July 8. The incident took place in the 9600 block of South Perry Avenue.

The victim, who was walking on the sidewalk around 4 a.m., was struck in the back of the head by gunfire. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following his arrest, Champion was taken into custody and charged accordingly. He is scheduled to appear at a detention hearing on Friday.
