Tragic Light Aircraft Crash Claims Lives of American Father and Two Daughters in the Caribbean

An unfortunate incident unfolded on Thursday when a light aircraft crashed into the waters off a Caribbean island, resulting in the untimely demise of an American father and his two young daughters. The Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force confirmed that the plane went down shortly after takeoff from Bequia island, en route to St. Lucia.

The passengers who lost their lives in this tragic incident were identified as Christian Klepser, aged 51, along with his daughters Madita Klepser, aged 10, and Annik Klepser, aged 12.

According to the authorities, the aircraft involved in the crash was a Bellanca 17-30A Super Viking, registered with the FAA. The ill-fated flight took off from J.F. Mitchell Airport at approximately 12:11 p.m. local time. Unfortunately, the plane encountered difficulties shortly after departure and plunged into the ocean.

Fishermen and divers in the vicinity quickly responded to the emergency, rushing to the crash site on boats in an attempt to provide assistance. Additionally, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Coast Guard was promptly alerted to the incident.

The Coast Guard’s diligent personnel managed to recover four bodies from the wreckage and surrounding waters. The police have identified the fourth victim as Robert Sachs of Bequia, who was not only the owner of the aircraft but also the pilot. All the recovered bodies have been transported to a mortuary in Kingstown, the capital of the nation, where postmortem examinations will be conducted to determine the exact causes of death.

Expressing their condolences to all affected by this tragic incident, the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force stated, “The RSVGPF expresses condolences to all who are negatively affected by this tragic incident.” The investigation into the crash is currently ongoing.

Following the crash, an unverified video surfaced on social media, allegedly capturing the moment of impact. The footage seems to show the aircraft descending into the water at a steep angle. Danroy Joesph, a local resident, described the sound of the aircraft as struggling and stalling, reminiscent of a vehicle attempting to climb a hill.

Online profiles and the website of the pilot, Robert “Bob” Sachs, reveal that he attended high school in New Jersey and recently owned a scuba diving center called Dive Bequia. Last year, he had shared videos on his Facebook account expressing pride in his aircraft.
