Man Charged in Connection with First Homicide of 2024 in Winnipeg

Police Respond to Disturbing Scene
On Thursday morning, authorities received a distressing call reporting a seriously injured man lying outside in the 800 block of Furby Street. Promptly responding to the call, police officers arrived at the scene at approximately 7:30 a.m.
Victim Identified as Daniel Jawbone
The victim was later identified as Daniel Jawbone, a resident of Winnipeg. He was immediately rushed to the hospital in critical condition due to the severity of his injuries. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of medical professionals, Jawbone succumbed to his injuries and tragically passed away.
Arrest Made in Connection with the Assault
Shortly after the incident, at around 9 a.m., law enforcement authorities arrested Darin Hanninen, also from Winnipeg, at an apartment suite in the vicinity. According to police reports, Hanninen is believed to have been involved in a physical altercation with Jawbone inside his apartment suite, resulting in the assault that ultimately claimed Jawbone’s life.
Second-Degree Murder Charge
As a result of the investigation, the authorities have charged Darin Hanninen with second-degree murder. He currently remains in custody pending further legal proceedings. It is important to note that the charge has not yet been proven in court, and Hanninen is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
