Stamford Man Rejects Prison Offer in Connection to West Side Stabbing

By [Your Name]

STAMFORD — In a recent development, a 33-year-old man from Stamford has rejected an offer to serve three-and-a-half years in prison relating to a stabbing incident that occurred in Stamford’s West Side in April.

The accused, Anthony Snell, stood alongside his attorney, Frank Bevilacqua, during a hearing at the state Superior Court in Stamford on Thursday morning, where he formally declined the state’s offer.

Under the proposed agreement, Snell would have pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree assault, carrying a dangerous weapon, and violation of probation. In return, he would have received a 10-year prison sentence, suspended after serving three-and-a-half years, followed by five years of probation. However, Snell’s rejection led to the withdrawal of the offer by Assistant State’s Attorney Michael Nemec.

In response, Bevilacqua requested a supervised pretrial hearing with a Superior Court judge to explore alternative resolutions to the case.

The incident leading to Snell’s arrest occurred on April 6, when police responded to a report of a man with a stab wound to his stomach on Taylor Street at 11:30 p.m. Two individuals, including Snell, were transported to the hospital after the altercation.

According to Assistant Police Chief Richard Conklin, a witness stated that Snell and another person engaged in a verbal altercation over an undisclosed matter. During the argument, Snell allegedly brandished a folding knife and stabbed the other man near his left rib cage.

Law enforcement officials recovered the knife used in the stabbing from the scene on Taylor Street, confirming the details provided by Conklin.

In addition to the charges related to the stabbing incident, Snell also faces charges for violation of probation, operating a drug factory, third-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, and interfering with police for unrelated incidents.

Snell’s next court appearance is scheduled for March 12.

As the case progresses, further updates will be provided to shed light on the resolution of this serious crime that has shaken the Stamford community.
