Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies Respond to Disturbance in San Benito

Cameron County Sheriff’s Deputies have reported that a disturbance occurred on Monday, January 1, 2024, at around 8 p.m. at a residence located on the 32000 block of Bent Tree in San Benito.

As per the report from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), upon their arrival, Sheriff’s Deputies made contact with a 24-year-old female who claimed that her ex-spouse, identified as Christian Ruiz, had allegedly assaulted her.

According to the CCSO, the victim stated that she was leaving the residence when Ruiz became upset and threw a baby stroller at her in a fit of rage.

The victim further accused Ruiz of forcefully grabbing her by the throat with both hands for approximately 30 seconds, leaving her gasping for air. She also experienced dizziness as a result of the incident. Sheriff’s Deputies observed redness on the victim’s throat, which indicated signs of strangulation, according to the CCSO report.

When Sheriff’s Deputies attempted to make contact with Ruiz, he exhibited belligerent behavior and refused to cooperate with them.
