Salem police announced the arrest of Clark-Adkins on Thursday, but initially withheld his identity for investigatory reasons. However, Marion County District Attorney Paige Clarkson later revealed his name in a news release. The decision to keep his identity under wraps was made to protect the integrity of the investigation, according to prosecutors.
The indictment alleges that Clark-Adkins fatally shot Matthew Newman, the 15-year-old victim. Clark-Adkins was taken into custody on Wednesday and is currently being held without bail at Marion County Jail.
The incident came to light when Salem police responded to a report of an unconscious person in a truck on November 6 at around 7:30 a.m. The boy was found with a gunshot wound, and within a week, the police classified the case as a homicide.
The arrest of Clark-Adkins took place on Wednesday afternoon in the area of Southeast Kinsington Street and Southeast Wickshire Court. As officers approached the suspect, he made a move towards an object in his waistband. However, a non-lethal munition was deployed by an officer, prompting the suspect to surrender. Police discovered a handgun in his possession.
