Accident – Death – Obituary News : In a joint press conference held at the Upper Darby Police Department, Police Superintendent Timothy Bernhardt and District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer announced charges against suspects in two separate, high-profile murder cases that occurred in 2023. The officials expressed their satisfaction with the level of cooperation and hard work that went into solving these two heinous crimes.

The first case involves the murder of 15-year-old Michael Garr on April 21. Marson Weh, a 24-year-old resident of Clifton Heights, has been charged with first-degree murder and related offenses in connection with Garr’s stabbing death. According to court documents, officers responded to a call about Garr being found on the sidewalk with a witness holding a towel to his neck. Despite life-saving efforts, Garr went into cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead shortly after. Surveillance footage showed Weh following Garr to the scene of the stabbing, and facial recognition technology confirmed his identity. Weh was subsequently arrested on an assault and carjacking warrant from Ohio. During an interview, he allegedly admitted to being the person seen in the surveillance video and revealed that he had been out walking after an argument with a girl he had been seeing. DNA evidence from a fabric cutting on Weh’s clothing matched a sample from Garr. Stollsteimer stated that there appeared to be no motive for the killing and described it as a random act of violence.

Weh is also facing charges of attempted murder in a separate stabbing and carjacking incident that occurred on February 7. In this case, a pregnant woman was attacked outside the Bishop Hill Apartments in the Secane section of the township. Weh allegedly cut the woman’s throat with a knife and stabbed her in the abdomen before fleeing the scene with her vehicle. Video surveillance footage matched the victim’s description of the attacker, and DNA evidence was found in the recovered vehicle.

The second case announced during the press conference involves the arrest of 20-year-old Herman Stigall for the murder of 65-year-old Mohammed Rahman outside the Masjid Al-Madinah Mosque on October 29. Police responded to a report of shots fired and found Rahman suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Despite life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries. Surveillance footage captured the suspect wearing a mask and approaching Rahman’s vehicle, a white Toyota RAV4, before a struggle ensued. The suspect fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, which was later recovered. Detectives were able to trace Stigall’s cellphone to the area of the mosque during the time of the murder and to locations where the stolen vehicle had traveled afterward.

Both Weh and Stigall will be extradited to Pennsylvania to stand trial for their crimes. Stollsteimer expressed his gratitude for the hard work and dedication of the police and detectives involved in these cases. Family members of the victims also expressed their appreciation for the progress made in the investigations.

The arrests in these two high-profile murder cases demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to ensuring justice and safety in the Upper Darby community. By working collaboratively, local, federal, and regional police agencies aim to drive down crime rates in the township and create a safer environment for residents..
