Johnson County, Texas – In the aftermath of a tragic head-on collision that claimed the lives of six individuals, the community has rallied together to offer their support. The incident, which occurred last week, has left investigators working tirelessly to piece together the details surrounding the deadly crash.

GoFundMe pages have been set up to aid the families of the victims, and as of Wednesday afternoon, hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised. The outpouring of generosity from the public highlights the impact this tragedy has had on the community. The Texas Department of Public Safety has also been actively involved in the investigation, looking into the possibility of drugs playing a role in the fatal collision.

The crash took place near the intersection of U.S. Highway 67 and County Road 1119, and authorities were notified shortly after 4 p.m. on December 26. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a pickup truck was attempting to overtake another vehicle in a no passing zone when it collided head-on with a minivan traveling in the opposite direction.

Tragically, six out of the seven occupants in the minivan lost their lives in the crash. The victims have been identified as Rushil Barri, 28; Nageswararao Ponnada, 64; Sitamahalakshmi Ponnada, 60; Naveena Potabathula, 36; Krithik Potabathula, 10; and Nishidha Potabathula, 9. Lokesh Potabathula, 43, the seventh occupant, sustained critical injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital.

Multiple individuals from the minivan were residents of Georgia, and the Telugu Association of North America helped facilitate the repatriation of the victims’ bodies to India. Ashok Kolla, a member of the association, revealed that all the occupants of the minivan were Telugu-speaking individuals. It is believed that, with the exception of Barri, who was a distant relative, the rest of the victims were Indian nationals and family members.

The bodies of the six deceased individuals were flown back to India on Sunday morning, while Lokesh Potabathula continues to receive treatment at a hospital in the Fort Worth area.

The two occupants of the pickup truck, both 17 years old and hailing from Glen Rose, were also injured in the collision and transported to medical facilities. Identified as Luke Resecker and Preston Glass, both individuals remain in critical condition, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

While authorities have discovered what appears to be drugs inside the pickup truck, no criminal charges have been filed as of Wednesday. William Lockridge, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety, stated that they are currently awaiting blood test results to determine if the driver was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash.

As the investigation continues, the community remains united in their support for the victims’ families. The tragedy serves as a somber reminder of the importance of road safety and the devastating consequences that can result from reckless driving.
