Suspect Identified in Perry High School Shooting: Senior Dylan Butler

The suspect behind the Perry High School shooting has been reportedly identified as senior Dylan Butler, according to local outlet WHO 13. Police have confirmed the shooter’s identity. This tragic incident took place during a breakfast program in the morning prior to the start of the school day.

The shooting occurred at Perry High School, which is located approximately 25 miles northwest of Des Moines, Iowa. Three people, including school principal Dan Marburger, were injured and had to undergo medical treatment. Sadly, one 6th-grade student lost their life. The shooter, believed to be Dylan Butler, appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Recent reports suggest that Dylan Butler had a TikTok account under the username “tooktoomuch.” Investigators are currently examining this account, which has now been deleted by TikTok. One of the last posts on this account showed Butler inside a bathroom stall with a duffel bag on the ground next to him. The video featured the words “now we wait” accompanied by a song called “Stray Bullets.”

Butler’s TikTok account featured an anime girl as the avatar. The account’s biography only displayed the gay pride flag and identified as a “dj.” Some of the other videos on the account showed Butler talking about getting “faded” on Christmas, engaging in a pretend gunfight on a school playground, and smoking weed with a group of individuals. Additionally, one photo posted by Butler included the caption “bro thought I was sharing my Gatorade, he’s mad,” accompanied by trans flag emojis and the hashtag “genderfluid.”

Another TikTok account under the name of DylanSayWhat showed the pronouns “he/they.” This account further showcased Butler’s interests and preferences, such as their love for hotdogs and My Little Pony. One post even mentioned a liking for furries.

A Reddit account believed to belong to Butler, with the username Dylanpickle1996, responded to a question on the r/Trans board. When asked “for those who haven’t started transitioning yet, what’s holding you back?” Dylanpickle1996 stated, “I don’t want to look ugly.”

First responders were alerted to the shooting at approximately 7:37 am. This incident occurred on the first day back to school after the winter break. Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante stated during a press conference that police officers arrived at the scene within seven minutes of the first call.

According to a first responder, there was a “male subject down in the hallway” near Room 308 with a suspected self-inflicted wound. The first responder also reported the presence of other victims. Shortly after, the suspect was confirmed to be “down and deceased.”
