Newly released bodycam footage has shed light on a harrowing officer-involved shooting incident that took place on New Year’s Eve in North Las Vegas. The incident unfolded after multiple 911 calls were received by the North Las Vegas Police Department reporting an armed man engaged in altercations with individuals in the 1300 block of Putnam Avenue. The suspect then fled the scene and sought refuge in a residence located in the 2800 block of Taylor Avenue. Witnesses identified him as the same armed individual from the earlier altercation. While officers were conducting their investigation at the Taylor Avenue residence, the suspect, later identified as 39-year-old Javier Flores, returned to the scene. The newly released bodycam footage captured the intense moments as officers ordered Flores to stop the truck he was driving, aware that there was a nine-year-old child inside. The officers can be heard urgently shouting, “Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop the truck!” Concerned for the child’s safety, they emphasized the need for caution.

Flores complied and halted the vehicle. As he stepped out of the truck, the bodycam footage revealed that he brandished a 9mm handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the officers. Faced with imminent danger, all three officers discharged their firearms, firing a total of 24 rounds at Flores, ultimately striking him.

The chilling audio captured during the gunfire includes the piercing screams of a terrified child in the background. Once Flores was incapacitated, the officers swiftly removed the child from the truck. One officer can be heard saying, “Move around and get the nine-year-old out of the car. We got it. Yes. Get the kid.”

Flores was immediately transported to University Medical Center, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
