Children Witness the Shooting

The victims’ 15-year-old and 12-year-old children were present at the scene and captured the shooting on their mobile phones, as documented in the police report.

According to the report, when the officers arrived at the scene, they were informed that the suspect had fled to her apartment. Upon reaching the apartment, they found Joe Junio standing in the doorway, and she was subsequently taken into custody.

Escalating Threatening Behavior

Juno and Davi’s family were neighbors, and in the weeks leading up to the shooting, Junio’s behavior became increasingly threatening after the family reported her to the homeowner’s association for violations related to chickens and dogs.

As per the report, Junio began harassing and threatening the family, resulting in them contacting the police on two separate occasions in the month leading up to the shooting.

The harassment and threats included throwing rocks into their backyard while the children were outside, making throat-slitting gestures, and telling them “they were next.” Junio also threw dog feces into their backyard and flooded their unit through a shared wall, as reported by the police.

Court Hearing for Protection Order

In response to the ongoing harassment, the family applied for a temporary protection order against Junio. The court hearing for the order was scheduled for January 8.

Feeling unsafe in their own home, the family began staying at a friend’s house for two weeks.

The Shooting Incident

On the day of the shooting, as the family was getting into their car to leave for the evening, they noticed Junio drive past and stare at them. Junio then parked next to them and rolled down her window. At this point, one of the victims’ children started recording the incident on her phone.

One of the victims confronted Junio, asking her to leave them alone as they had already endured enough. Junio continued to stare at the family, prompting the victim to ask, “What’s your problem with us?” and took a few steps towards the car.

Subsequently, Junio got out of her car and began shooting at the family, hitting both Nick Davi and another woman. One of the victims managed to struggle with Junio for the gun before she fled to her apartment, according to the police.
