Accident – Death – Obituary News : Le’Keian Woods to Face Arraignment at Duval County Court on Thursday

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Le’Keian Woods, the individual who gained widespread attention due to a viral Jacksonville arrest video in September, is scheduled to appear at Duval County court on Thursday at 9 a.m. for his arraignment. The case involves Woods fleeing a traffic stop and resisting officers at the time of his arrest, as stated in a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) incident report. Notably, his mugshot received significant attention due to visible injuries on his face, including severe swelling and bruising.

As of now, Woods faces charges of resisting an officer without violence, tampering with evidence, and possessing a controlled substance without a prescription. However, it is important to note that the State Attorney’s Office has chosen not to pursue three additional charges that the police wanted to levy against Woods. These charges included armed trafficking of 14 grams or more of amphetamine, armed trafficking of 28 grams or more of cocaine, and armed possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

The incident report reveals that Woods was struck a total of 17 times by responding detectives and officers during his arrest on September 29. The video footage of the incident depicted multiple officers surrounding Woods, with one officer even picking him up and forcefully slamming him onto the ground. A few days later, the body camera footage of the incident was released.

The officers involved in the arrest include Detective Beau P. Daingle, Detective Josue Garriga, Detective T. McCullough, and Detective Hunter Sullivan. Sheriff T.K. Waters, in a statement to the press, highlighted that one specific video, showing Woods being kicked, was intentionally altered to create a false impression of him being kicked while handcuffed. However, it is worth noting that the Department of Justice announced on October 23 that it would not be investigating the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office regarding this incident.

According to the incident report, the JSO’s Gang Unit was conducting surveillance when they observed a vehicle at a gas station that was not actively pumping gas. A gray Dodge Ram arrived at the gas station with three occupants, and Woods, dressed entirely in black with a hood covering his head, exited the passenger side of the vehicle. He then entered another vehicle and began counting money. Detectives initiated a traffic stop on the Dodge Ram, but the vehicle continued driving, seemingly searching for a place to escape.

Eventually, the vehicle reached a dead end in an apartment complex driveway, where Detectives Daigle and Sullivan attempted a high-risk takedown. During the arrest, Woods was subjected to being tased, punched, struck in the ribs, elbowed, and unintentionally kneed by officers due to his alleged resistance.

Following the arrest, Woods was taken to UF Health for medical treatment. The arrest report does mention the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, but the specific details were redacted.

In early October, Woods was transported to the Leon County Jail due to an outstanding warrant related to a probation violation in an unrelated case involving a robbery by sudden snatching charge.
