Lompoc Resident, 20, Fatally Shot by Officers Responding to Reported Carjacking and Robbery Attempt at Convenience Store Last Week

Police authorities in Lompoc, Santa Barbara County, have revealed the identity of the young man who was tragically shot and killed by officers in response to a reported carjacking and robbery attempt that took place at a local convenience store. The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Connor Amador, a resident of Lompoc.

The incident occurred on the night of December 29, 2023, at the Circle K located on 1421 East Ocean Avenue. According to police reports, Amador, armed with a weapon, allegedly robbed the store clerk, making off with cash and alcohol. Shortly after, he fled the scene only to return to the convenience store around 1:18 a.m. the following day.

Upon his return, Amador attempted to carjack an individual at the gas pumps before reentering the store to commit another armed robbery. As he exited the premises, responding police officers confronted him and a confrontation ensued, resulting in the fatal shooting of Amador. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office has taken charge of the ongoing investigation into the shooting incident. At present, it remains unclear what type of weapon Amador was armed with or what circumstances led to the officers resorting to the use of lethal force.

In the wake of this tragic incident, Amador’s family has created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for his memorial service, funeral, and burial costs. Described by his loved ones as a dedicated brother, uncle, son, and a dear friend, Amador was known for his easy-going nature and was often referred to as a “sweetheart.”

Authorities are working diligently to uncover further details surrounding the events that transpired on that fateful night. The community of Lompoc is left mourning the loss of a young life, seeking closure and answers as the investigation continues.
