Law Enforcement Descends on Norfolk Apartment Building
Four individuals were apprehended on Wednesday night following a significant presence of law enforcement officers at a Norfolk apartment building. The operation aimed to locate a man with active felony arrest warrants, according to Lt. Joe Greenough of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
Tip Leads to Police Dispatch
At approximately 7 p.m. on Wednesday, police were dispatched to 1414 S. Third St. after receiving a tip regarding the presence of a wanted man at the apartment building. Upon arrival, officers spotted the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Patrick Prince.
High-Stakes Arrest Operation
Capt. Michael Bauer of the Norfolk Police Division revealed that Prince had been the subject of an ongoing search by multiple law enforcement agencies due to his outstanding arrest warrants. Prince had previously made threats to use a firearm against law enforcement if confronted.
Norfolk police, Madison County deputies, and Nebraska State Patrol troopers promptly converged on the scene. While officers were monitoring the building, a Madison County deputy witnessed Prince attempting to leave. However, upon spotting the officer, Prince quickly retreated back inside the building.

Tense Standoff in Apartment
Prince sought refuge in one of the apartments, prompting a thorough search of the building by officers, deputies, and troopers. As tenants evacuated their units, law enforcement eventually identified the specific apartment where Prince had sought sanctuary on the second floor.
Search Warrants Executed
The Norfolk Police Division secured a search warrant for the apartment believed to be Prince’s hiding place. With the assistance of the sheriff’s office and state patrol, the warrant was executed between 9:30 to 9:45 p.m., resulting in Prince’s arrest.
Discovery of Drugs and Paraphernalia
During the operation, law enforcement officers observed drugs and drug paraphernalia in the apartment. Consequently, a second search warrant was obtained specifically for controlled substances and related paraphernalia. The subsequent search revealed methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia that tested positive for methamphetamine, implicating other individuals present in the apartment.
Additional Arrests Made
Three other individuals who were with Prince in the apartment were taken into custody. The apartment’s resident, identified as 45-year-old Pedro De Leon Jr., was arrested on an active Colfax County arrest warrant and on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance. Kelcee E. Albin, 27, from Osmond, and Brianna R. Maughan, 21, from Meadow Grove, were both arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance. Albin was subsequently confined to the Norfolk City Jail.
No Weapons or Injuries
Greenough confirmed that neither Prince nor De Leon were armed, and no injuries were reported during the operation.
Previous Arrests and Warrants
According to court records, Prince was arrested on May 16 by Norfolk police on suspicion of possessing methamphetamine, a felony. His failure to appear in Madison County District Court on September 22 led to a warrant for his arrest. Later, Prince was charged with failure to appear, another felony.
Additionally, Prince had an outstanding warrant in Lancaster County for attempted possession of methamphetamine. He failed to appear in court on September 28.
Prince has been incarcerated in Nebraska on three separate occasions, with his most recent sentence taking place in July 2021 for assault, possession of a deadly weapon, and drug possession in Platte County. He was released in April.
Potential Additional Charges
Greenough mentioned that Prince and De Leon could face further charges as a result of Wednesday’s incident once the police investigation concludes.
Prior Incident at 1414 S. Third St.
Wednesday’s operation marked the second occurrence, within a span of approximately 2½ months, where law enforcement responded to 1414 S. Third St. On October 19, the body of 29-year-old Zachariah Andrews was discovered inside a chimney at the apartment building. Tenants had reported a putrid smell and an influx of flies in the area. Preliminary investigations suggested that Andrews’ death was accidental.

However, Prince barricaded himself in an apartment, necessitating a larger-scale law enforcement response involving the Norfolk Police Division, sheriff’s office, and Nebraska State Patrol.
After identifying the specific unit on the second story where Prince was located, the Norfolk Police Division obtained a search warrant. With the assistance of the sheriff’s office and state patrol, Prince was apprehended between 9:30 to 9:45 p.m. Greenough clarified that Prince is not a resident of 1414 S. Third St.
Another individual, 48-year-old Pedro De Leon, was also present in the apartment and subsequently arrested due to an active warrant. Greenough clarified that neither Prince nor De Leon were armed, and no injuries were sustained during the operation. De Leon is believed to reside at 1414 S. Third St.

However, he failed to appear in Madison County District Court, resulting in an arrest warrant. Prosecutors subsequently charged Prince with failure to appear.
