Torrington Man with 18 Arrest Warrants Apprehended After Alleged Shoplifting Incident in East Haven

A man from Torrington, who was wanted on 18 arrest warrants, was successfully apprehended on Wednesday after attempting to flee from officers following an alleged shoplifting incident in East Haven, according to the local police department.

The East Haven Police Department received a report of shoplifting at the Snipes shoe store, situated at 684 Foxon Road, at approximately 11:28 a.m. on Wednesday. Promptly, officers were dispatched to the scene and provided with a description of the suspects as well as the vehicle they had used to flee from the area, as stated by the authorities.

Fortunately, detectives Jon Trinh and Fred Sego were in the vicinity and managed to locate the suspect’s vehicle, which was parked on the shoulder of Bradley Street near Bellman Street, according to police officials.

Following this discovery, Sgt. John Finnimore, along with Officers Dean Bibens and Anthony Fiorillo, swiftly converged on the car and initiated a motor vehicle stop, as reported by the police.

However, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as 45-year-old Nelson Vidro from Torrington, allegedly reversed the car and collided with Finnimore’s police cruiser. In an attempt to flee, Vidro continued to ram the police cruisers, but thanks to the assistance of Sego and Trinh, both Vidro and his passenger, 38-year-old Nadine Inorio from West Haven, were ultimately taken into custody, police confirmed.

According to the authorities, Vidro has been charged with several offenses, including conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, assault on police, first-degree reckless endangerment, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, failure to carry an insurance card, reckless driving, failure to obey an officer signal, and operating with a suspended license.

It is worth noting that at the time of his arrest, Vidro had a staggering 18 arrest warrants issued against him by various law enforcement agencies. Consequently, he was held on a $100,000 bond for the on-site arrest and appeared in court on Thursday in New Haven.

On the other hand, Inorio faces charges of fifth-degree larceny, interfering with an officer, and conspiracy to commit fifth-degree larceny. She was also presented in court in New Haven on Thursday and held on a $2,500 surety bond, according to the police.
