NORTH CHARLESTON — Dorchester County police have apprehended two suspects believed to be involved in a fatal shooting that occurred on Christmas Eve at a Parker’s Kitchen gas station. According to security footage retrieved from inside the store, an argument broke out shortly before 11:20 p.m. on December 24th. As tensions escalated, Demetrius Brown reportedly pulled out a firearm from his waistband. In response, Koebe Huger retrieved his own weapon and fired shots at Brown, as stated in the arrest warrants. Brown retaliated by firing back, tragically striking Ian Kyle Ravenell in the head, resulting in his death at the scene.

Following the incident, Demetrius Brown was immediately transported to Trident Hospital, where he underwent surgery to treat the four gunshot wounds he sustained. On December 27th, Koebe Huger was arrested and charged with attempted murder, as well as three weapons-related charges, according to the arrest warrants. Subsequently, on January 2nd, Brown was charged with murder and a weapon violation in connection to the death of Ian Kyle Ravenell, as confirmed by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office.

During the investigation, several family members of the victims arrived at the scene on December 24th. Unfortunately, due to the proximity of Ravenell’s body to the glass door, family members were able to witness the aftermath of the shooting. Despite law enforcement’s instructions to stand back, some family members attempted to enter the store. As a result, one family member allegedly assaulted a police officer. The individual was forcefully restrained, subdued with a taser, and subsequently cited with public disorderly conduct, according to the report.

The arrest warrants indicate that both Brown and Huger are accused of acting with malice aforethought, suggesting that the shootings were premeditated or deliberate. However, Lieutenant Rick Carson of the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office was unable to provide further details regarding the nature of the shooting. Additional information is expected to be revealed during preliminary hearings for each defendant. At present, the scheduling of these hearings has not been announced.
