Tragic Incident at Salt Lake City Airport as Man Climbs into Plane Engine

A shocking incident occurred at Salt Lake City Airport on Monday night when a 30-year-old man tragically lost his life after climbing into a plane engine. The man, identified as Kyler Efinger from Park City, Utah, accessed the engine of a Delta Airlines Airbus A220, which was scheduled to fly to San Francisco with 95 passengers on board. The flight had to be canceled following the incident, as reported by NBC News.

Lifesaving Efforts Prove Unsuccessful

Upon discovering the man inside the engine, airport police immediately sprang into action, pulling him out and performing CPR. They also administered naloxone, a medication used to reverse the effects of opioids. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the man could not be saved and passed away at the scene.

Disturbance Reported Before Tragic Incident

Prior to the man’s ill-fated decision to climb into the plane engine, a store manager in the terminal reported a disturbance involving the passenger. This prompted Airport Control to inform the police about the situation. However, the man managed to pass through an emergency exit and gain access to the airport’s ramp area.

Timely Discovery on the Runway

Approximately ten minutes after the disturbance was reported, police discovered personal items, including clothing and shoes, on one of the airport’s runways. This crucial find led them to believe that the man had made his way to the runway area.

Tragic Encounter with the Plane Engine

Further investigation revealed that the man had reached one of the airport’s deicing pads before being spotted underneath an aircraft and accessing the engine. Police officers swiftly arrived at the scene and found the man partially inside the A220 engine, which had started rotating. They promptly extracted him from the engine’s intake cowling and called for emergency medical services.

Ongoing Investigation and Autopsy

The Salt Lake City Police Department stated that the exact stage of engine operation at the time of the incident is still under investigation. Additionally, the autopsy conducted on the deceased individual will include a toxicology report to shed light on any substances that may have contributed to his actions.
