FORT WAYNE, Indiana: Inmate in Critical Condition After Suicide Attempt at Allen County Jail

An inmate at the Allen County Jail in Fort Wayne, Indiana, is currently in critical condition after a suicide attempt on Tuesday. The incident, which occurred at around 2 p.m., prompted immediate medical attention from jail officers who discovered the situation.

The inmate’s identity has not been disclosed, and authorities are conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. In compliance with standard protocol, the Indiana State Police will also conduct their own separate investigation alongside the sheriff’s officials, according to Sgt. Furthermore, in 2021, 18-year-old Ariona Paige Darling was found unresponsive in her cell with a ligature around her neck. She was immediately taken to a local hospital where she tragically passed away. The Allen County Coroner’s investigation concluded that Darling’s cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging, ruling it as suicide.

In light of these distressing incidents, Darling’s family has taken legal action, filing a lawsuit against members of the sheriff’s department and Allen County Commissioners in federal court. The lawsuit alleges negligence and seeks justice for the loss of their loved one.
