Actor Carrie Bernans Injured in New York City Crash

Carrie Bernans, an actor and stunt performer known for her appearances in “Black Panther” and “The Color Purple,” was injured in a car crash in midtown Manhattan on New Year’s Day. The incident occurred when a driver fleeing from the police drove onto the sidewalk and struck several pedestrians, including Bernans, who was pinned under a food truck.

Bernans, 29, suffered broken bones and chipped teeth, and is currently in a great deal of pain, according to a post by her mother on Instagram. Her publicist has not yet provided a comment on the incident.

The driver, a 44-year-old man, was arrested on charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and driving while intoxicated. Fortunately, none of the injuries sustained by the pedestrians were life-threatening.

The crash occurred near Penn Station, about a dozen blocks south of Times Square, where New Year’s Eve celebrations had just taken place. Thousands of revelers had gathered to ring in the new year.

Bernans, who had an uncredited role as a member of the Dora Milaje fighting force in “Black Panther,” also performed stunts in the musical adaptation of “The Color Purple” that was released last month. She is a mother to a young son, who was fortunately not with her at the time of the accident.
