21-Year-Old Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal Shooting at North Charleston Apartment Complex

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – In a significant development, local law enforcement authorities have apprehended a 21-year-old man in connection with a tragic shooting incident that took place at a North Charleston apartment complex. The North Charleston Police Department has identified the suspect as Carlos Ladrell Bennett, who is believed to have been involved in the deadly shooting that occurred on Fairwinds Drive on December 28.

Following intensive investigations, Bennett was located and taken into custody in Hinesville, Georgia. He was subsequently transported back to North Charleston and is currently being detained at the Al Cannon Detention Center, facing a charge of murder.

The incident took place in close proximity to the Fairwind-Oakfield Apartments. Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officials discovered the victim, 18-year-old Jacari Smith, who had sustained a gunshot wound. Tragically, Smith succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

As the investigation continues, the North Charleston Police Department is diligently working to uncover all the details surrounding this senseless act of violence.
