A Tragic Incident: 10-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot in Californian Suburb

A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in a Californian suburb when a 10-year-old boy tragically lost his life after a bicycle race. The victim’s mother, Brittani Frierson, has claimed that the boy was shot dead by another 10-year-old boy, who became a “sore loser” after the race. The incident took place in Foothill Farms, located about 16 miles northeast of Sacramento, on Saturday. The alleged shooter’s father, identified as Arkete Davis, was also arrested in connection with the incident.

The shocking incident occurred when Keith “KJ” Frierson was found bleeding from the head and neck at approximately 4.30pm. According to Brittani Frierson, her son had sought her permission to ride the bicycle, which he had fervently requested as a Christmas gift. Just 15 minutes after granting him permission, their neighbors frantically knocked on her door to deliver the devastating news. A child who had participated in the race informed Brittani Frierson about what transpired between the two boys.

Brittani Frierson shared her anguish, stating, “I screamed for hours after I saw my child on that ground, because I could just see that he had no chance.” The grief-stricken mother revealed that the neighbor’s child informed her that the alleged shooter, in a fit of anger after losing the race, returned with a gun and shot KJ in the neck without uttering a word.

The suspect, a 10-year-old boy, was apprehended by the authorities on suspicion of murder. Meanwhile, his father, Arkete Davis, aged 53, was arrested on charges of carrying a stolen, loaded firearm in a vehicle, child endangerment, and being an accessory to a crime after the fact.

What Transpired?

According to the police, the 10-year-old boy discovered a loaded gun in his father’s truck while fetching cigarettes for him. The boy then boasted about the gun, claiming it belonged to his father. Shockingly, he proceeded to shoot KJ once and fled to a nearby apartment. Law enforcement officials believe that Davis attempted to conceal the weapon by discarding it in a nearby bin.

Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Amar Gandhi confirmed that Ms. Frierson had learned about the incident from her neighbor’s child. He stated that there was nothing further to add from their end, emphasizing the overall sadness of the situation.

A Beloved Son and Friend

In the wake of this tragedy, Brittani Frierson reminisced about her son’s kind and compassionate nature. KJ was known for helping elderly women in their neighborhood with their shopping. He was described as a generous, intelligent, and friendly boy by those who knew him. Neighbors gathered for a vigil in his memory, expressing their condolences and sharing fond memories of him. KJ had recently joined the Junior Football Mustangs, a youth American football team, where he was cherished as a member of the Mustangs family.

Brittani Frierson cherished a special memory of KJ’s resilience and determination. Despite losing his father just days before, KJ exhibited immense joy upon reaching a championship game alongside his brother and teammates. This incident further highlights the devastating impact of his untimely demise.

Brittani Frierson disclosed that the accused boy, who allegedly shot her son, would often visit their home to play with her children. She expressed her heartbreak over her son losing his life at the hands of someone he considered a friend.

Pursuing Justice

The Frierson family holds Arkete Davis responsible for the tragic fate of both boys. Brittani Frierson lamented Davis’ actions, stating, “Instead of aiding my baby, he tried to hide it, he tried to cover it up.” She expressed her determination to seek justice for her son, vowing that Davis will be held accountable. As of now, Davis remains in jail, with a bail amount of £395,000 ($500,000) set. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Davis, an ex-convict, was legally prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm. Furthermore, the gun used in the incident had been reported stolen in 2017. It remains unclear if Davis has legal representation to speak on his behalf.
