NASHIK: A group of four Mumbai youths, aged between 20 and 24, met with a tragic accident on the Mumbai-Agra highway in Igatpuri during their New Year party trip. The accident occurred around 4.45am on Monday, resulting in the death of three individuals and leaving one with severe head injuries.

The victims have been identified as Dhwaj Jain, a 24-year-old resident of Bhavani Shankar Road in Dadar West, Shikhar Yadava, a 23-year-old from Kokilaben Hospital Lane in Andheri West, and Rushabh Solanki, a 23-year-old from Lalbaug. Vansh Jain, a 20-year-old from Parel, is currently undergoing treatment for his head injuries. The authorities are still investigating who was driving the car at the time of the accident.

The four friends were on their way back to Mumbai when their luxury car collided with a truck near Bortembhe Phata in Igatpuri taluka. The impact was so forceful that the truck’s axle broke, indicating that the car was being driven at a high speed. The accident resulted in a motor accident case being registered by the Igatpuri police.

Nashik Rural SP Shahaji Umap expressed his condolences and stated, “A proper inquiry will be conducted before taking the next legal steps. It is crucial to determine the cause of the accident and hold the responsible party accountable.”

The injured youths were immediately rushed to the Igatpuri Rural Hospital for medical assistance. Unfortunately, three of them succumbed to their injuries, mainly head wounds. The surviving victim, who also suffered head injuries, was transferred to a hospital in Nashik city for further treatment.

Pradeep Ingole, the medical superintendent of Igatpuri Rural Hospital, confirmed that the bodies of the deceased were later sent to Mumbai after their relatives arrived at the hospital. He also mentioned that the truck driver involved in the accident is from Uttar Pradesh, although the truck itself is registered in Dhule.

In a separate incident, five individuals sustained serious injuries when an SUV they were traveling in collided with a stationary truck on the Eastern Express Highway in the Thane area early Monday morning. The authorities are investigating the cause of this accident as well.
