Loved Ones Mourn the Tragic Loss of 10-Year-Old Keith Frierson

SACRAMENTO COUNTY, California – A community is in mourning after the senseless shooting of 10-year-old Keith Frierson over the weekend. Friends, family, and community members gathered for a heartfelt vigil on Monday evening at the location where the tragedy occurred, off Greenholme Drive in Sacramento County.

Keith’s mother, Brittani Frierson, tearfully described her son as a sweet soul who did not deserve to die. She revealed that the shooting took place right outside their apartment after Keith engaged in a bike race with another young boy, whom he had considered a friend. The tragic incident unfolded when Keith emerged victorious from the race.

According to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Deputies swiftly apprehended a 10-year-old boy and his father, identified as 53-year-old Arkete Davis, in connection with the incident. Shockingly, investigators discovered that the 10-year-old assailant had obtained the firearm from Davis’ vehicle, using it to fatally shoot Keith. Davis subsequently attempted to dispose of the weapon by discarding it in a nearby trash can.

Brittani Frierson expressed her anguish at Davis’ actions, stating, “Instead of aiding my baby, he tried to hide it. He tried to cover it up. He left my baby there. He will pay for this. We’ll get justice for my son.”

Keith’s godmother, Nina Trepagnier, echoed the sentiment, placing blame on Davis for the tragic fate that befell both Keith and the 10-year-old shooter. Trepagnier emphasized the importance of parental responsibility, asserting that the parents had failed their child and set a poor example.

During the emotional vigil, loved ones fondly remembered Keith as a loving, selfless, and kind individual. Trepagnier described him as always joking, laughing, and willing to lend a helping hand. Keith had a passion for sports, particularly football, and was an active member of the Jr. Foothill Mustangs team. Coaches from his football team also attended the vigil, paying tribute to the young athlete they affectionately called a “gentle giant.”

The investigation into the shooting revealed that the gun used had been reported stolen in 2017. Additionally, Davis, a convicted felon, was prohibited from possessing a firearm. As a result, the 10-year-old suspect now faces charges of murder and has been transported to the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility. Davis, on the other hand, has been booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on various felony gun-related charges, as well as child endangerment and accessory after the fact.

Davis is currently being held on a $500,000 bail and is expected to appear in court on Wednesday to face the consequences of his actions.
