Man Fatally Shot in Mt. Angel, Oregon

MT ANGEL, Ore. — A tragic incident unfolded in the small Marion County city of Mt. Angel on New Year’s Day when a man was fatally shot. The victim has been identified as 42-year-old Brandon Slack, a resident of Mt. Angel. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the shooting, and no arrests have been made at this time.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and officers from the Mt. Angel and Silverton police departments responded to a 911 call just before 6 a.m. reporting a shooting on Pershing Street near Marquam Street. Upon arrival, they discovered Brandon Slack suffering from serious injuries. Despite efforts to provide medical aid, Slack tragically succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Law enforcement authorities have stated that the shooting suspect had fled the area before officers arrived. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office’s criminal investigations unit, along with the Mt. Angel police, is leading the investigation into the incident.

On the evening of January 1, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team assisted detectives in serving a search warrant in the Gervais area, which is believed to be connected to the shooting investigation. However, no arrests were made during the operation.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has emphasized that this remains an active investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.
