Accident – death – Obituary News : Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies who were investigating the disappearance of a man in Vancouver, Washington, made a disturbing discovery at his last known address. Upon arriving at the property near Northwest Sluman Road and Overlook Drive on August 21st, they found a burned vehicle, later identified as a Kia Soul, at the residence.

Further investigation led to the identification of the human remains inside the burnt vehicle as belonging to 38-year-old Khalid M. Al-Hassan, a resident of Vancouver. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Al-Hassan’s cause of death was homicide, indicating that he was killed by another person or persons.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office immediately contacted their Major Crimes Unit and obtained a search warrant for the property. Detectives discovered the human remains inside the burnt Kia Soul. The tragic finding brought a new turn to the investigation into Al-Hassan’s disappearance.

As the investigation progressed, authorities charged a man named Logan Melchert in connection with the case. Melchert was charged with second-degree arson and unlawful disposal of human remains. According to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, evidence suggested that Melchert was responsible for setting the Kia Soul on fire. It was revealed that the vehicle was owned by the estate of Melchert’s deceased father, who had passed away several months prior.

In addition to the charges related to the burned vehicle and human remains, Clark County jail records listed several unrelated charges against Melchert. These charges included reckless driving, hit and run, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and being a fugitive from justice.

This disturbing case has shocked the community in Vancouver, Washington. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding Al-Hassan’s death and any potential motives for the crime.
