Tragic Accident Claims Life of Jackson Woman in Claiborne County

PORT GIBSON (AP) — A devastating incident occurred early Tuesday morning as a deer crashed through the windshield of a car traveling on U.S. 61 in Claiborne County, claiming the life of a woman from Jackson.

The fatal collision took place at approximately 5:20 a.m., according to Trooper 1st Class Darnika Mayfield of the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Authorities from the Mississippi Highway Patrol revealed that a southbound Chevrolet Cavalier collided with a deer, resulting in a chain reaction. After hitting the Chevrolet, the deer forcefully impacted a northbound 2011 Nissan Maxima, entering the vehicle through its windshield.

Regrettably, the collision resulted in the death of a passenger in the Nissan. The deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Amanda Taylor, hailing from Jackson. Mayfield confirmed that Taylor was pronounced dead at the scene. Fortunately, both drivers involved in the accident escaped any injuries.
