Tragic Explosion Claims Four Lives in Northfield Township, Michigan

Authorities Identify Victims and Investigate the Cause of the Incident
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The devastating aftermath of a deadly home explosion in Washtenaw County, southeastern Michigan, has left authorities searching for answers. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, December 30, resulted in the loss of four lives and left two individuals with serious injuries. The explosion took place in a residential property located approximately 10 miles north of Ann Arbor.
The Northfield Township Fire Department revealed that the home belonged to 72-year-old Richard Pruden, who was hosting his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren from Arkansas for the holiday season. As of Tuesday, Pruden remains in critical condition at the hospital, while his 16-year-old grandson, Stephen Bragg, is listed as stable.

The victims who tragically lost their lives in the explosion have been identified as Hope Bragg, 51, Don Bragg, 53, Kenneth Bragg, 22, and Elizabeth Bragg, 19. The tight-knit family’s visit ended in unimaginable tragedy.
Authorities are diligently investigating the cause of the explosion, but have only referred to it as an “undetermined fuel air explosion.” At this stage, foul play is not suspected.
The explosion’s impact was so substantial that it could be heard several miles away, according to reports. The debris from the blast covered nearly 2 acres of Pruden’s property, an indication of the sheer force exerted during the incident.
Supporting the Victims and Their Families
In the wake of this devastating incident, the community has rallied together to offer support for the victims and their families. GoFundMe pages have been set up to assist Richard Pruden with his medical expenses and aid in Stephen Bragg’s recovery.
Additionally, a vigil will be held on Saturday, January 6, at 3 p.m. at Whitmore Lake High School. The vigil aims to bring the community together to honor the lives lost and provide comfort to the grieving families.
