Mandya and Mysuru witnessed a heartbreaking incident during the early hours of Monday when New Year celebrations turned fatal for two young individuals. The accident occurred on the Bengaluru-Mysuru national highway, claiming the lives of Arnav and Maya Singh, both 19 years old. Hailing from Bihar, the duo resided in Bengaluru. Maya Singh was a medical student, while Arnav was pursuing engineering in the same city.

The unfortunate incident took place between 3:30 am and 4:00 am near TM Hosur Gate in Srirangapatna taluk. Arnav, Maya, and four of their friends were traveling in an SUV when it collided with a car from behind. The impact of the collision was so severe that Arnav and Maya lost their lives instantly, while the other four occupants of the SUV sustained injuries.

Not only did Arnav and Maya lose their lives, but the passengers in the other car, who were students from Kolar, also suffered injuries in the accident. Promptly responding to the incident, the police rushed to the scene and transferred the bodies to JSS Medical College and Hospital for postmortem examination. Srirangapatna Rural Police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter.

In a separate incident, two students tragically lost their lives when the motorbike they were riding was hit by a car near the Premiere Studio Junction on the Mysuru-Madikeri highway. The victims were identified as Hrithik, 22, a native of Hassan, and Sampath, 22, a resident of Hinkal. The collision occurred around 2:00 am when the duo was heading towards Hinkal. The VV Puram traffic police have registered a case in this regard.

The police managed to trace the culprits through CCTV footage and recovered a stolen bike and cash worth Rs 93,000 from them.
