ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A car chase led by the New York State Police came to a dramatic end with a collision at the intersection of Culver Road and Route 490, resulting in gun charges against one of the drivers involved.
The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. when the NYSP attempted to stop a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Hudson Avenue in Rochester for traffic violations. However, when the driver failed to comply, troopers initiated a pursuit. The chase weaved through several city streets until it culminated in a collision between the Jeep and a 2022 Volkswagen SUV at the intersection of Culver and 490. As a result of the crash, all occupants of both vehicles sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were promptly transported to Strong Memorial Hospital.
The driver of the Jeep Cherokee has been identified as 27-year-old Dontayius Gordon from Rochester. Upon investigation, it was revealed that Gordon was in possession of a loaded Smith and Wesson handgun. Consequently, he has been charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, specifically a firearm. Gordon has been taken into custody and is awaiting arraignment at the Monroe County Jail.
New York State Police have confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
