COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The arrest of a Colorado Springs mother in the United Kingdom following the tragic death of her two children has prompted her ex-husband’s attorneys to disclose further details about her criminal history.

Kimberlee Singler has been charged with first-degree murder for the deaths of her 7-year-old son, Aden, and 9-year-old daughter, Elianna “Ellie” Wentz. Additionally, she faces an attempted murder charge for her 11-year-old daughter, who was found injured. The devastating incident occurred on December 19.

Kevin Wentz, Singler’s ex-husband, identified the deceased children. Wentz’s legal team has shed light on Singler’s troubled past.

Legal History and Custody Dispute

The process for Singler and Wentz’s divorce, along with a custody dispute, began in Larimer County in 2018. During the proceedings, Singler made allegations of child abuse and domestic violence against Wentz, which his attorneys vehemently denied, stating that these claims were baseless. After careful consideration of the evidence presented, the court ruled that Wentz did not pose a threat to the children.

Divorce Finalization and Ongoing Custody Battle

According to court records obtained by 11 News, Singler and Wentz’s divorce was finalized in 2020. Following the divorce, Singler reverted to her maiden name. However, the case remained open due to unresolved custody matters.

Temporary Protection Order and Restriction of Parenting Time

In September 2023, Singler filed a request for a Temporary Protection Order in El Paso County, accusing Wentz of brandishing a knife towards her. The court granted the order based solely on Singler’s testimony, despite Wentz denying the allegations. Wentz’s attorney filed a motion to dismiss and requested a hearing to address the matter. The case was rescheduled for a hearing in January to determine if a permanent protection order would be granted.

In November 2023, the Larimer County Court held a hearing on Singler’s emergency motion to restrict Wentz’s parenting time, which was related to the knife allegations mentioned in the protection order. However, the court, after hearing the evidence presented, concluded that Wentz did not pose a threat to the children and rescinded the order.

Parenting Time Contempt Motion and Failure to Appear

Singler was supposed to meet Wentz for a court-mandated meeting to hand over the children for family time. These meetings were scheduled to take place outside the Stetson Hills Police Station in Colorado Springs and at the Greeley Police Station. At the end of a hearing in November, the court set a hearing for January 11 to address a contempt motion filed against Singler for not complying with previous parenting time orders.

On December 16, Singler failed to show up for one of the scheduled meetings. Concerned, Wentz and his attorney, Rex Harris, attempted to contact Singler but were unsuccessful. Consequently, Harris filed an emergency motion for law enforcement assistance to enforce parenting time on Wentz’s behalf on December 18. The court then ordered Singler and the children to appear in person on December 20.

Tragic Discovery and International Arrest

On December 19, Singler and her 11-year-old daughter were found injured, and her two other children were discovered deceased when the police responded to a burglary call. Singler herself sustained injuries during the incident.

Following an extensive investigation, an arrest warrant was issued on December 26. Singler was eventually located in the United Kingdom over the weekend.

Legal Proceedings and Mourning the Loss

The BBC informed 11 News that Singler is expected to appear in court in the UK on January 29. She will remain in the UK for the duration of the legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, Kevin Wentz is grieving the loss of his children and expressed his devastation upon hearing the tragic news. A private funeral is currently being arranged for Aden and Ellie. If you wish to contribute towards the funeral costs, you can do so here.
