NEW YORK — The woman who was trapped under a food truck during a police pursuit that resulted in a collision with pedestrians in midtown Manhattan on New Year’s Day has been identified as Carrie Bernans, an accomplished actor known for her roles in movies such as “Black Panther” and “The Color Purple.”

Carrie Bernans, who is also a stunt performer, sustained serious injuries including broken bones and chipped teeth as a result of the crash near Penn Station. The information was shared by her mother in a post on Instagram.

Carrie Bernans’ publicist has not responded to requests for comment at this time.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. when a 44-year-old man attempted to evade the authorities. He drove onto the sidewalk, causing injuries to multiple pedestrians, including Carrie Bernans who was trapped under a food truck.

Fortunately, none of the injuries sustained by the victims were life-threatening. The driver was apprehended and is now facing charges that include attempted murder, reckless endangerment, and driving under the influence.
