BARIPADA: A tragic incident unfolded on Sunday evening as a 21-year-old under-trial prisoner (UTP), identified as Rabi Singh, took his own life in Baripada Circle Jail located in Mayurbhanj district.

Rabi Singh hailed from Mahulia village within Sadar police limits and had been incarcerated since December 2020 in connection with a liquor smuggling case.

The distressing turn of events occurred at approximately 6 pm when Rabi hanged himself from a prison railing using his towel. Other inmates noticed the act and promptly informed the authorities.
