Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash in Fond du Lac County Leads to Arrest

FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wisconsin – Authorities have apprehended a 19-year-old man from West Bend on charges of hit-and-run causing death, following a tragic incident that occurred on New Year’s Day in Fond du Lac County.

According to the local sheriff’s office, the fatal crash took place on Highway 45 in Auburn township. A vehicle carrying five individuals veered off the road, colliding with a culvert, and subsequently rolled multiple times, resulting in four passengers being ejected from the vehicle.

Tragically, a 19-year-old woman from Hartford, who was driving the vehicle, was thrown out during the accident and subsequently dragged for a staggering three miles by another vehicle. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Law enforcement authorities believe that the occupants of both vehicles were acquainted with each other and were traveling together at the time of the incident. The sheriff’s office also suspects that alcohol played a significant role in the initial crash.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, and a 17-year-old boy from Iron Ridge was immediately transported to Froedert Hospital in Milwaukee. The young boy, initially believed to be from West Bend, suffered critical injuries. Additionally, the other victims, a 16-year-old girl from Theresa, a 17-year-old from Milwaukee, and a 21-year-old from Iron Ridge, were also taken to nearby hospitals, where they are expected to recover from their injuries.

Further details surrounding the crash will be revealed once the district attorney files a criminal complaint in court, as stated by the sheriff’s office.
