Tragedy Strikes as Software Engineer Falls to His Death from 33rd-Floor Balcony

A party night turned into a tragedy for a 27-year-old software engineer after he accidentally fell from the 33rd-floor balcony of his friend’s flat at Bhattarahalli near KR Pura in east Bengaluru on Friday morning and died.

Preliminary investigation by the police revealed that the deceased, identified as Divyanshu Sharma, allegedly slipped while attempting to dispose of cigarette ash. According to a report by the Times of India, Sharma fell near the walking track of the apartment complex.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh and working as an engineer in a private company, Sharma resided in Kodigehalli (KR Pura). Police informed that Sharma’s father is a retired Indian Air Force employee who lives with other family members in Horamavu.

On the ill-fated night, Sharma and his friends had planned to watch a movie at Phoenix Mall. However, they arrived late and decided to visit a pub in Indiranagar instead. They returned to Sharma’s friend’s apartment around 2:30 am.

While cleaning the room, Sharma accidentally slipped from the 33rd-floor balcony, where he was disposing of cigarette ash.

According to the KR Puram police, “Everyone was asleep, and Divyanshu decided to clean the room, which was filled with ash and cigarette buds as they partied the whole night. It looks like he slipped from the 33rd-floor balcony while throwing the ash outside,” as quoted by the Hindustan Times.

In the early morning, members of the apartment complex discovered the body near the playground and alerted others through their common WhatsApp group. The police used Sharma’s ID card to identify him. They are awaiting the autopsy report to determine the cause of death and have questioned all of Sharma’s companions.
