Mumbai Police have successfully apprehended a 62-year-old man who had been wanted in a murder case for over 31 years. The arrest was made in the Nalasopara area of the neighbouring Palghar district, according to an official statement.

The accused, identified as Deepak Bhise, is alleged to have committed the murder of Raju Chikna in 1989 and had also attempted to murder another individual, Dharmendra Saroj. Despite being granted bail in 1992, Bhise never appeared for his case hearing in court. Consequently, in 2003, the court declared him an absconder, the official added.

For many years, the police visited Bhise’s residential address in Tulaskarwadi, Kandivali, but locals often informed them that he may have passed away. Determined in their pursuit, the police continued their search for the fugitive,” the official stated.

Successful Tracking by the Police

In their relentless search for Bhise, the police managed to obtain the mobile phone number of his wife. By tracking her, they were eventually able to locate Bhise in Nalasopara, where he was apprehended on Friday night,” the official revealed.

According to the official, Bhise had settled in the locality with his family and was involved in tree-cutting contracts. The 62-year-old suspect has now been arrested, and further investigation into the case is currently underway, said Kandivali police station sub-inspector, Nitin Satam.
