Greensboro Police Sergeant Fatally Shot While Intervening in Criminal Situation
A Greensboro police sergeant tragically lost his life while courageously intervening in a criminal situation. The off-duty sergeant was shot at a Sheetz convenience store situated on Sandy Ridge Road. Despite immediate aid efforts from another off-duty officer and a Guilford County paramedic, the sergeant succumbed to the injuries sustained and passed away at a local medical facility.
During a press conference, Police Chief John Thompson solemnly addressed the media, providing poignant insights into the life of the fallen officer. The sergeant, who remains unnamed out of respect for the grieving family, was known to be a devoted husband, father, son, and brother. With an impressive 22 years of service, the sergeant had dedicated his life to both the Greensboro Police Department and the local community.

In the aftermath of the tragedy, authorities swiftly issued a Blue Alert, seeking information on two suspects associated with a black Chevy Equinox. The suspects were last seen traveling westbound on Interstate 40. The vehicle, with a North Carolina license plate reading “KKA-4332” and a Hertz Car Sales plate on the front, became the subject of a widespread search.
Following the initial alert, a subsequent Blue Alert clarified that the shooting was classified as an assault on law enforcement. However, the alert was later canceled after the North Wilkesboro police announced the successful apprehension of the suspects in Winston-Salem. The department extended their condolences to the fallen officer’s family and the Greensboro Police Department.
Responding to the tragedy, Governor Roy Cooper pledged state resources to facilitate the swift capture of those responsible, emphasizing the paramount need for justice. Lt. Governor Mark Robinson also extended heartfelt condolences and offered assistance, while Attorney General Josh Stein called for collective prayers for the grieving officer’s family.
