Former World Champion Cyclist Rohan Dennis Charged in Connection with Wife’s death

Sydney — Former world champion cyclist Rohan Dennis has reportedly been charged in connection with the tragic death of his wife, Olympic cyclist Melissa Hoskins. The incident occurred when Hoskins was struck by a vehicle while riding in Adelaide.

Australian media reports have revealed that Dennis is facing charges of causing death by dangerous driving, endangering life, and driving without due care. He has been released on bail and is expected to appear at the Adelaide Magistrates Court in March.

Melissa Hoskins, aged 32, represented Australia in the London and Rio de Janeiro Olympics, showcasing her immense talent and dedication to the sport.

According to South Adelaide Police, the incident took place in Medindie, an Adelaide suburb, at around 8 p.m. on Saturday. Emergency services were called to the scene following reports of a woman being struck by a vehicle. Tragically, Hoskins sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Rohan Dennis is renowned for his remarkable achievements in the cycling world. He secured gold medals in the team pursuit at the 2010 and 2011 World Championships and was crowned the world time trial champion in both 2018 and 2019. Dennis also claimed silver in the team pursuit at the 2012 London Olympics and bronze in the road time trial at the 2020 Tokyo Games. Furthermore, he is a stage winner at prestigious events such as the Tour de France, Giro d’Italia, and the Spanish Vuelta.
