Suspected Drunk Driver Collides with Phoenix Firetruck, Injuring Five Firefighters

Phoenix police are currently investigating an incident that occurred early Sunday morning, where a suspected impaired driver crashed into a Phoenix firetruck, resulting in injuries to five firefighters. The collision took place at approximately 1 a.m. in the vicinity of 75th Avenue and Thomas Road. Authorities were alerted to the incident following multiple reports of the accident.

Authorities have revealed that all five firefighters and the driver of the other vehicle involved in the collision were promptly transported to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure. Phoenix fire officials have confirmed that everyone involved is in a serious but stable condition. Four of the firefighters have already been discharged from the hospital, while the fifth firefighter is currently in a stable condition.

Driver’s Signs of Impairment Lead to Arrest

During the ongoing investigation, the Phoenix police have stated that the driver of the other vehicle, identified as 30-year-old Alexis Mendoza, displayed clear signs of impairment. Preliminary information suggests that Mendoza ran a red light, resulting in the collision with the firetruck, which was en route to an emergency call at the time of the incident.

Authorities have refrained from disclosing any details regarding the nature of the emergency call the firetruck was responding to.

Arrest and Charges

Following the incident, Alexis Mendoza was arrested by the Phoenix police and subsequently booked into the Maricopa County jail. He is currently facing one count of driving while impaired, as stated by the police.
