The victims have been identified as Watson Morgan, 49, Ornela Morgan, 43, and their two sons, aged 10 and 12. Clarkstown Police believe that Watson Morgan killed his family before turning the gun on himself. A handgun was recovered from the scene, further corroborating their theory.

Neighbours expressed their shock and disbelief about the incident. Milagros Honoridez, a resident living nearby, stated, “We’re just shocked. It’s never happened in this neighbourhood.” The Morgans were known to be a loving and caring family, making the tragedy even more difficult for those who knew them.

Watson Morgan, the head of the family, was a sergeant with the Bronxville Police Department, where he had served for 16 years. Prior to joining the Bronxville Police Department, he had worked for the NYPD. The Bronxville Police Department released a statement expressing their profound sadness and offering condolences to the grieving community. They revealed that Watson Morgan had failed to report for his evening shift, which led to them contacting the Clarkstown Police Department to check on his well-being. The subsequent discovery of the bodies shattered the community.

The statement from the Bronxville Police Department read, “It is with profoundly broken hearts at the senseless loss of innocent lives that we send this message to a grieving community. Sergeant Watson Morgan and his two sons and wife were discovered deceased at their home in New City, all with gunshot wounds, with Sergeant Morgan’s being self-inflicted. Sergeant Morgan joined the New York City Police Department in 2000 and the Bronxville Police Department in 2007. He was assigned to the detective division in 2014 and promoted to Sergeant in 2016. Our hearts go out to Sergeant Morgan’s extended family. Our thoughts and prayers are also with his Bronxville Police Department family. As we try to come to terms with this state of shock and sadness, we will continue to share with you what we can based on what the Clarkstown Police Department releases, as this is an ongoing investigation.”

The motive behind this devastating family tragedy remains unclear. Clarkstown Police have emphasized that this was an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public. However, they urge anyone with information related to the investigation to come forward and contact them at 845-639-5840.

In response to this heartbreaking event, the Town of Clarkstown has arranged for grief counselors to be available for students affected by the incident. The community is coming together to support one another during this difficult time.
