BIRMINGHAM, ALA. — Birmingham Police have apprehended a suspect in connection with two separate shooting incidents that occurred on Saturday, resulting in one fatality and two individuals sustaining injuries.

The initial incident took place at approximately 1:31 p.m. near the intersection of Edwards Lake Road and Gadsden Highway. According to reports, an individual was observed firing shots at another vehicle. Moments later, a related car crash involving a car and a pickup truck was reported on Parkway East.

Upon arrival at the crash scene, law enforcement officers discovered two male victims with injuries. Both individuals were promptly transported to UAB Hospital by the Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service. It was later revealed that the occupant of the car, identified as 77-year-old Birmingham resident Stephen A. Keith Jr., had sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound. Tragically, Keith succumbed to his injuries later that night. Authorities believe he was the intended target of the shooter.

The individual in the pickup truck sustained injuries as a result of the crash and is currently reported to be in a serious but stable condition.

Approximately two hours after the initial shooting incident, another shooting occurred in the Spring Lake area, specifically in the 1300 block of High Point Terrace. Police officers arrived at the scene and discovered another person who had sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that both shooting victims were targeted by the same suspect, who is now in police custody. The Birmingham Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding these incidents in order to gather more information and ensure public safety.
